Gluten-Free Chinese Orange Chicken
I recently hosted a small get-together and two friends suffer from gluten allergies. I saw this as a challenge and wanted to make something everyone could enjoy, while still delivering on flavor. That’s when I stumbled across this amazing, gluten-free orange chicken. The secret? GF soy sauce and cornstarch. I’m happy to report that the dish delivered and everyone raved about how flavorful it was. It’s since become a go-to weeknight recipe. Why order take-out when you can make it at home?!
Gluten-Free Chinese Orange Chicken
INGREDIENTS (Serves 2):
1/4 cup fresh squeezed orange juice
2 tbsp white wine vinegar
2 tbsp gluten free soy sauce
1 tsp sriracha
2 cloves garlic (crushed)
1 tsp orange zest
1/4 tsp ground ginger
2 tbsp + 1/4 cup brown sugar (divided)
2 chicken breasts (boneless, skinless – sliced into bite-sized chunks)
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 egg (whisked)
3 tbsp olive oil
2 tbsp fresh green onions (sliced – garnish)
1 tsp sesame seeds (garnish)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Prepare the sauce by combining the first 7 ingredients and 1/4 cup brown sugar in a medium bowl then set aside.
2. Prepare a shallow dish with the whisked egg and another dish with the cornstarch and 2 tbsp brown sugar.
3. Place chicken into the egg then lightly coat in the cornstarch mixture.
4. Add olive oil to a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is hot, add the breaded chicken.
5. Cook chicken until lightly brown, approximately 5-7 minutes.
6. Pour sauce over chicken, stirring to coat and cook on low heat for another 8-10 minutes.
Serve with Jasmine Rice, and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
